How to find us
Postojna has always had a strategically good position for travelling. Due to a very well developed network of railways, busses and roads it’s easily accessible from every point entering Slovenia. Important roads have been crossing this region for centuries. City lies in the southwest of the country and its location between Ljubljana, Trieste, Gorizia on one side and Rijeka on the other side was always a favorite spot for visitors.
It is reachable by car/bus on the A1 motorway from the directions of Ljubljana, Koper or Trieste (exit Postojna).
By train – as the Vienna – Venice railway line runs through here, with connections to Ljubljana, Koper, Zagreb, Munich, and Rijeka.
And plane as there are numerous international airports relatively close to Postojna: Ljubljana, Trieste, Zagreb, Pula, Rijeka, Klagenfurt are just some you can reach within 1,5 hour.

- Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport, Ljubljana (71 km). By car on the A2 motorway to Ljubljana, followed by the A1 motorway to Postojna.
- Trieste No-Borders Airport (Ronchi dei Legionari Airport), Italy (74 km). By car on the A4 motorway to the Redipuglia toll station in the direction of Trieste-Slovenia to the Fernetti (Fernetiči) border crossing, from where you take the A3 motorway to Divača, followed by the A1 motorway to Postojna.
- Rijeka Airport, Omišalj, Croatia (99 km). By road across the Krk Island Bridge to Rijeka and onwards to the Rupa border crossing, and then Ilirska Bistrica and Postojna

Take Postojna highway exit. Do not forget that Slovenian highway is payable. You can purchase Vignette at any fuel station once you enter the country. Weekly fee for a personal car is €15.
Once passing toll Booths take the right exit and continue driving toward the city. When you enter Postojna just keep driving until you reach traffic lights. Keep driving to the roundabout and take the first exit right which will take you to the second roundabout. Take the third right exit and continue driving for another 200 meters. Once you come to the small cross road turn right and follow the uphill road (now you can see the park on your right hand side). Once on the top turn sharp right into the high stone entrance which will take you to the Park. Follow the road and find a marked free Parking places which belong to Youth Hostel Proteus Postojna.

Once you leave the train station through the main door exit you are on road called Kolodvorska cesta. Turn right and keep walking for about 300 meters until you reach the main road (Ljubljanska cesta). Turn left on Ljubljanska cesta in walk straight down for another 300 meters. Now you are on the main square in Postojna Center. Check your right hand side and find Kras Hotel. Pass it from behind. On small cross road (once you pass Kras Hotel from behind), take left on Tržaška cesta road and keep going for approximately 200 meters until you see the high stone entrance to the Park on the right side. Youth Hostel Proteus Postojna is located inside the Park.

Bus station is located very close our Hostel. As you come out of the bus just keep walking toward the main bus building. Walk through the passage (you must pass main door entrance) and continue walking for another 10 meters. As you reach through the stone pillar go right. Just few meter after you will reach the stairs that lead to the main road (Tržaška cesta). Once on the main road turn left and keep walking (about 200 meters) until you get to the Park on your right hand side. Youth Hostel Proteus is located on inside the Park.
